Government Grants for Storage Heater Replacement & Heating Grants
Storage heater grants are available under the ECO4 scheme to replace old, inefficient, or faulty electric storage heaters with modern, energy-efficient models. These upgrades can significantly reduce electricity bills and improve home heating efficiency.
To qualify for the free electric storage heater grant, you must be a homeowner or a private tenant (with landlord permission). Your property should have existing electric storage heaters and an EPC rating of E, F, or G. Properties with an EPC rating of D may also be eligible later in the scheme, subject to specific funding limits.
Eligibility also depends on receiving qualifying benefits such as Universal Credit, Pension Credit, or Child Tax Credit. Households not receiving benefits may qualify under local authority flexibility (ECO Flex). Private tenants may need to have solar PV installed alongside the electric storage heaters as part of the scheme requirements.
The ECO4 scheme is in its final phase and will end on March 31, 2026, or earlier if energy companies meet their obligations. Applications for storage heater grants are now open! Don’t miss this opportunity to upgrade your heating system and save on energy costs!

What Are Electric Storage Heaters
Electric storage heaters store thermal energy during off-peak hours, typically at night, and release it throughout the day. This makes them a cost-effective heating solution when used with off-peak electricity tariffs like Economy 7.
What Type of Storage Heaters Qualify?
To qualify for a free electric storage heater under the ECO4 scheme, the existing storage heaters must be old, inefficient, or faulty. The new heaters installed under the scheme are typically modern, energy-efficient models such as High Heat Retention Storage Heaters (HHRSH) and smart storage heaters with advanced features like programmable thermostats and fan-assisted heat distribution.
