What type of heaters can be replaced?

Storage heaters, sometimes known as night storage heaters, store heat during periods when electricity is cheaper e.g. at night. Heat is then released when required.

If your electric storage heaters were installed more than 10 years ago, or one or more of the units is faulty, you should qualify for a grant to have all the units replaced with modern, efficient units.

There are no grants available to install a full Gas/Oil/LPG heating system. Electric fires and portable electric heaters also do not qualify for replacement under the scheme.

Storage Heater Criteria

  • Heaters are more than 10 years old
  • Or at least one unit is faulty / not working
  • You receive an income related benefit
  • Property is privately owned or rented
  • No grants for full heating systems
  • No grants for electric fires or portable heaters

In some circumstances you may have to pay a contribution,
depending on the amount of work required and the efficiency of the property.

What if you don't qualify?

If you don't qualify for a storage heater grant, we can arrange for you to receive up to 4 quotes to install a full Gas, Oil or LPG Central Heating system. Typical costs are in the region of £3,000 to £5,000. Please fill in the form above, select None in the benefits box and mention in the notes that you would like quotes.

How can EnergyLink help?

Once you have completed the form, we will allocate you to an approved local installer who has access to funding for storage heaters. They will contact you by telephone to arrange a free, no-obligation survey. If the property is suitable and you qualify for a grant, they will arrange the work and then claim the grant on your behalf.
